DiMEN will approach the digitization of healthcare from two perspectives: on the one hand, as providing opportunities and challenges for ethical values in healthcare, thus rendering it a topic of research and teaching. On the other hand, digital technologies will be taken into consideration as new tools with which to support the Medical Ethics profession, e.g., for the development of new modes for teaching and ethics consultation.
How we work
Teaching
To strengthen education in Medical Ethics throughout Germany, new concepts for teaching Medical Ethics will be brought forward including a curriculum for digital medical ethics and courses for professional education.
Research
DiMEN promotes the exchange between national and international scientists and supports the qualification of young scientists with its own research hub and the DiMEN Fellowship. The Digital Ethics Foresight Lab will continuously monitor developments in digital health and medicine and identify new relevant topics.
Consultation
DiMEN explores new ways of ethics consultation for outpatient as well as inpatient facilities. The federal state of Brandenburg becomes a model region for testing remote ethics counselling. Supplementary teaching materials will be developed and made freely available. Finally, a citizens' dialogue will take place to provide information about this service and to engage in discussion with representatives of the public.
